The West Rand Flying Squad once again had great success when multiple officers responded to reports of a burglary in Azaadville at about 14:30 on Wednesday, February 16.
Three flying squad cars, which were in various locations in Krugersdorp, responded rapidly and arrived at the home in question to find five intruders who reportedly had entered the home under the guise of street beggars.
Warrant Officer J Diedericks, one of the first to respond to the scene explained, “We went there quickly and found the five suspects in possession of one firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition, and another box with 50 rounds, as well as foreign currency to the value of R35 297,96 – all of which were stolen.”
Communications officer Karen du Plessis added that, “The owner of the house sustained no injuries and all suspects were arrested without any shots being fired”.
The other Flying Squad members responsible for taking the suspects into custody were Warrant Officer Dhladhla, Sergeant Baloyi, Sergeant Sebake, Sergeant Qete and Constable Malwela. The suspects were taken to the Kagiso Police holding cells and will appear in court on Friday, February 18.
Diedericks explained that thugs often pretend to be beggars.
The moment someone opens for them, they rush in. Homeowners are often tied up and it could be a traumatic experience for victims.
He warned the public to be aware and cautious of such tactics.
Lieutenant Colonel L Pillay, Commander of the West Rand Flying Squad, and Brigadier S Kilian, Provincial Head Commander commended the members for their quick response, preventing any injuries, ensuring that the suspects did not get away and for their great teamwork.
