LETTER: Escaping is not a Christian virtue
'Houdini could not escape death, but we can. The Bible says, death is not the end' – local pastor.
• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Houdini is probably the most famous escape artist in history. He was so good at escaping from impossible situations that he told his wife that he would escape even death.
Christians are trying to challenge him by escaping life’s challenges. If you want to see God’s hand, don’t pray that Goliath will slip in the shower or be caught up in a traffic jam and not turn up. Don’t pray that when you are thrown into the lion’s den that there would be no lions.
God’s power and love for you are shown when Goliath turns up, when the lion’s den is full of lions. Now God can exhibit his power and love for us. Our problems gives God a possibility to show himself to us.
In front of your giant today, in your lion’s den, trust God, he will deliver you.
Houdini could not escape death, but we can. The Bible says, death is not the end. Even if we die, we will live. Escaping is not a Christian virtue.
