Cyclists take on the Curro challenge
Curro Krugersdorp along with Cycle 2 Ride hosted another one of their annual cycling days at the high school where riders from various Curro schools and the public competed on a track on the school grounds
The Curro Cycling 2 Ride (C2R) Mtb Festival made its way back to the Curro Krugersdorp High School fields again on Saturday, March 5, giving learners from the high and primary schools, along with riders from other Curro schools and the general public the chance to compete in a safe, fairly easy mountain-biking challenge.
The race started off on the high school rugby field, looping out across the closed-off back road to the school’s new sports fields where racers had to face a bit of a climb, grass and dirt riding before crossing the road again back onto the school premises for a short loop back to the starting line. This route was repeated a few times.
The various race categories included the sub-nippers (ages seven and eight), nipper boys and girls (nine and ten), sprogs boys and girls (11 and 12), sub-junior boys and girls (13 and 14), balance 3, 4 and 5 (three to five), and pedal 6 (five and six) rounds.
After the young riders were awarded their medals, the time came for a bigger fun ride where parents and other older riders could join the kids for one final ride.
The C2R festival is held over a few weeks at various Curro schools across South Africa. Schools earn points throughout the festival and, by the end of the competition, the top school can win an indoor cycling facility.
After Saturday’s race, Curro Krugersdorp is in third position with 800 points, with Durbanville in second with 924, and Somerset West in first position with 1 589 points.
