Illegal possession of firearm leads to arrest in Magaliesburg

Magaliesburg Police arrested a man after pulling over a red Toyota Conquest and finding an unlicensed firearm.

A 27-year-old man was arrested by Magaliesburg Police for possession of an sublicensed firearm and ammunition on Saturday, March 26.

Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, Magaliesburg Police spokesperson said, “Members of the Crime Prevention Unit, Sergeants Thembinkosi Sithole and Lebogang Msimanga were conducting crime-prevention duties on the R24 Rustenburg Road in Magaliesburg when they spotted a red Toyota Conquest.

They stopped the vehicle with its three occupants. They conducted a search and found a 9mm firearm with ammunition in the possession of one of the occupants. He failed to produce a licence to possess a firearm and was arrested.”

The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine whether it had been used in a crime.

Magaliesburg Police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mawewe Vuma applauded members for their hard work which led to the arrest of the suspect.

The man is set to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
