LETTER: What is your reason for getting up?
The best days are the days you wake up and say, “Good morning, Lord”, not “Good Lord, it is morning.” – local pastor.
• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Not many of us are morning people. While some cannot sleep, others have difficulty both waking up and getting up. Anxiety, depression are two very common battles people fight every day.
Things that rob us of precious and essential sleep. And if you are deprived of sleep, you don’t want to wake up and you try to stall getting up. How can you overcome this common enemy? Find a reason to get up and get going. For me it is a ride on my Vespa, a visit to the gym or coffee with a friend. If there is something particularly special that day, getting up is so much easier.
Appreciating a sunrise, feeding the birds and counting my blessings lift my spirit and the day starts with a song. You and I cannot control the day but we can get a head start by getting up on the right side of the bed.
A lesson I learnt about getting up is that it is linked to how I go to bed. Forgive those who hurt you, ask God to forgive you. Let go of things. Breathe deeply. Thank God for your health, wealth and family. Many people are less fortunate than you, yet they choose to be grateful.
The best days are the days you wake up and say, “Good morning, Lord”, not “Good Lord, it is morning.” What is your reason for getting up?
