LETTER: God’s seed is in us

'We watch Superman, knowing it is fake, because deep inside each of us is a desire to fly' – local pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

Some things you hear once and you never forget them. I heard a preacher once say, “The difference between Hollywood and church is simple, Hollywood takes what is not real and makes it appear real”.

Masters of illusion. The church takes what is real and makes it appear as not real. Allow me to illustrate. Superman cannot fly. It is fake news, a setup, all staged. An ordinary person with no super powers lies on a table, fans blowing on him while a pre-recorded scene is projected behind him. The illusion of flight is so real. But the truth is, Superman cannot fly.

An empty tomb 2 000 years ago was not staged, it is not a setup for a movie scene. Even Jesus’ family and friends could not believe what they saw. But it is a fact, the tomb was empty. Many eyewitnesses confirmed this. Among them sceptics like you and I. It is real with so many other things recorded in the Bible.

We watch Superman, knowing it is fake, because deep inside each of us is a desire to fly.

Reading account after account in the Bible of things long ago must give us hope. No one wants to be ordinary. Miracles take place when ordinary people believe in the extraordinary. We are not born ordinary or average; God’s seed is in us.
