Case of man who assaulted school boys in court on July 5

Concern that there might have been improper interference in the investigation and prosecution of Oupa Chembe.

The trial of Oupa Chembe, 52, who is facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property, is expected to start in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, July 5.

AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit will be acting in accordance with a watching brief on behalf of Zander Oosthuizen, the complainant in the matter, who was a school learner when the incident happened.

In August 2021, Chembe allegedly kicked a dent in Oosthuizen’s vehicle and assaulted him. Oosthuizen and two of his friends were in their school uniforms when the alleged unsolicited attack took place, Chief Investigator of the unit, Andrew Leask said in a statement.

“The Private Prosecution Unit got involved in the matter due to concerns that there might have been improper interference in the investigation and prosecution of Chembe.

The unit also obtained video footage of the incident and prepared the complainant for trial,” Leask concluded.
