Woman gang-raped, robbed in veld: Man wanted

Police released an image of one of the suspects wanted in connection with the gang-rape of a woman in Krugersdorp.

The Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit has released an identity kit of a suspect believed to be involved in the rape and robbery of a 31-year-old woman in an open veld next to Von Brandis Street, Krugersdorp.

Local police said two other men are also involved. The incident occurred at about 20:45 on Friday, July 1.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said the victim was walking along Von Brandis Street towards a taxi rank when she was attacked.

“While on her way to the taxi rank, she was accosted by an unknown man who grabbed her by the jersey. Another two unknown men then joined.

“The group of suspects then instructed the victim, in Sesotho, to keep quiet before threatening her with a knife. They then dragged her into the bushes and took turns rapping her without using a condom.

“The suspects also took the victim’s cell phone as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The victim later reported the matter to the police and was able to identify one of the suspects through an identity kit.

The suspect is said to be sotho-speaking,  between 30 and 40 years of age, approximately 1.65m in length, medium built and coffee colour in complexion. He was wearing a black trouser, blue reflector and black bennie.

Acting Krugersdorp Police station commander Colonel Senne Mogotlane, condemned this kind of an act and deemed it as heartless.

He further encouraged the community to walk in groups and avoid walking during the night, especially in secluded areas as there are predators waiting to prey.

Anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest of this suspect may contact the Krugersdorp Police on 011 951 1151 or contact Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or information may be communicated via MySAPS App or SMS number 32211 and remain anonymous or may contact the Investigating officer Constable Phillip Lenyai on 073 915 3918 or office landline 011 951 1729.
