Travel light, pack right: Essential holiday packing advice
Whether you’re heading to the coast or the mountains, smart packing is key. Learn how to balance comfort, practicality and style with these essential travel tips.
It’s that time of year when people start packing for a well-deserved holiday. But are you packing smart?
Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for a washing powder company, says many people are guilty of overpacking, often guided by the little voice in their head whispering, ‘just in case’.
She shared these expert tips to pack efficiently:
• Versatile clothing (mix-and-match): Less is more. Stick to basic tops, comfy shorts or jeans, and one dressier outfit. Choose fabrics that dry quickly for on-the-go laundry, and keep colours that coordinate easily.
• Mini first aid kit: Include plasters, antiseptic cream, painkillers, and any personal medication. A decongestant, like a menthol chest rub, can be useful for allergy flare-ups.
• Toiletry essentials: Pack the usual items – toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner. Extras like hand sanitiser, wet wipes, and a fabric refresher spray come in handy. For travellers with kids, baby wipes are essential for sticky hands, surfaces, or even shoes.
• Reusable water bottle and snacks: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in hot weather. Pack a refillable bottle and snacks like nuts, dried fruit, or granola bars to keep hunger at bay.
• Tech and travel documents: Don’t forget chargers, plug adaptors, and power banks. Keep your passport, ID, and travel documents in one folder for easy access while moving between destinations.
• Something for comfort: Tracksuit pants, hoodies, or a neck pillow can make all the difference for a relaxing trip.
“Packing isn’t about how much you can fit; it’s about making your trip easier, cleaner, and more comfortable. A bit of practicality goes a long way,” Bronwyn concluded.
