Spec-Savers Medicross Krugersdorp showed their support to the West Rand School after they made a donation through their fundraiser.
However, this is not the only way they support the school. According to optometrist Fanie van Niekerk, they have been committed to the school for the last 10 years, as they test the learners’ eyes, free of charge.
In October, they hosted their Eye Care Awareness Fundraiser, and Fanie explained that all the funds raised that day through eye tests were donated towards the school. They raised R5 500, which was doubled by Spec-Savers South Africa, totalling R11 000, which was handed over on November 19.
These funds will be used to support athletes competing at the National Track and Field Championships for the Physically Disabled.
“This initiative reflects the branch’s ongoing commitment to improving lives, both through eye care and through meaningful social support. By directing funds toward athletes with physical disabilities, we help create opportunities for competitors whose resilience and determination inspire us all,” Fanie said.
“The success of this fundraiser is also a testament to the generosity of the community, whose contributions demonstrate that collective action can make a profound difference. In supporting these athletes, we reaffirmed a simple truth: When a community invests in hope and inclusivity, everyone’s vision for a brighter future becomes clearer,” he concluded.
