The original Hussar Grill in Rondebosch first opened its legendary doors in 1964 and has become renowned for its outstanding steaks and grills, celebrating over 55 years of award-winning excellence. The Hussar Grill at Silverstar opened in November 2019 just before the pandemic struck and managed to remain open, despite the many challenges.



This luxurious and classy restaurant serves only perfectly aged succulent steaks, along with several other delectable house specialities and boasts an amazing award-winning wine selection. They even cater for vegetarians.
Their lovely reception area showcases an impressive taste of the many wines available in their cellar. The beautiful and interesting collection of old books they have sourced from all over compliment the décor, radiating a sense of old school luxury.

Their operating hours are Monday to Thursday from 12:00 to 23:00. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant opens at 11:00 and closes at 20:00.
The meat they serve off the bone has been matured for a minimum of 28 days, while the meat served on the bone has been matured for a minimum of 14 days before it is presented to the diners.








They currently have a lunch special of a starter and a main for R160 running from Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 16:00.

The restaurant also has a date night two-course special for two people on a Monday and Tuesday evening. Patrons can choose to have a starter and a main, or a main and a dessert at R399 per couple.

The Silverstar Hussar Grill owner and operator, Peter Erasmus, said they also have a premium offering on lamb, fish and chicken.
Mature meat offering is very important to us and sets us apart from the rest. That is why our steaks are matured according to a wet ageing method, sealed in a vacuum and then cut into portions,” said Erasmus.
Their most popular dish at the moment is their 400g Bone Marrow rib-eye which is matured for 28 days and grilled to perfection.
The restaurant also has an outdoor space overlooking the Silverstar water feature where one can sit and enjoy a meal on a hot summer day.

“Part of the Hussar Grill experience is that each customer gets a meat presentation board which not only explains the meat cut but showcases what it looks like.
You literally get what you see – just a better version of it – which is always cooked to perfection as per order, be it medium, rare or well done.”
The restaurant offers classic cocktails such as the Strawberry Daiquiri and Pina Colada among others, and their very own specialty called the Hussar Highlander.
For those wondering about the name, a Hussar is a Hungarian light horseman.
