After a herd boy found a carcass in a veld, the Hekpoort police and stock theft unit sprung to action to catch the man responsible.

The Hekpoort Police recently arrested a 46-year-old man for stock theft after a carcass was found in a veld.
Hekpoort Police Spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye said the suspect appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday, November 11 and was arrested after a case was opened on Tuesday, November 8.
“The herd boy reported the case to the police after he found a carcass in the veld,” said Sergeant Maswanganye.
She added that the Hekpoort Police and Stock Theft Unit followed up on information of someone who was selling meat at one of the Hekpoort farms. Their search landed them at the shack of a 46-year-old man who admitted to stealing a cow and selling its meat.
The Hekpoort Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Kgomo was pleased with the members for their courage and commitment. She urged farmers to continue reporting stock theft to better their chances of a successful arrest.
“She further reminded farmers to count their live stock regularly, keep control of livestock registers and also mark their livestock.
“Police will make sure that exceptional service is rendered to all livestock owners by means of combating and successful investigation of stock theft cases,” said Kgomo.
