Four women assaulted officer after traffic violation
Four women who have been arrested for assaulting a traffic officer have been charged with defeating the ends of justice.
Four women have been arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice and interfering with the performance of police duties after he tried to arrest a woman following a traffic violation.
Captain Solomon Sibiya explained that the four women were all between the ages of 19 and 24 years old. They were arrested on Monday, March 6 at about 07:20 in extension 12 on the corner of Geba Street and the R41.
Sibiya said it is alleged the traffic officer was posted at a school when he noticed one woman violating and disregarding the rules of the road.
“The officer approached and attempted to arrest the suspect.”
Another woman then approached and started interfering, she then pushed the officer which prevented him from making the arrest. Two more women then joined and they assaulted the officer.
“The officer was rescued by some concerned residents.”
All four women were arrested and detained at the Kagiso police station.
The Acting Station Commander for the Kagiso police, Colonel Dorette Greyling said that interfering with police duties, preventing an officer of the law from performing his duties, and going as far as assaulting him is an indictment and a serious offense that is punishable by law.
“Whoever is undermining the law, will be put where she or he belongs, in prison.”
