Pedestrian killed in alleged hit-and-run

The police have launched an investigation following the death of a pedestrian in Kagiso.

Kagiso police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal hit-and-run incident last weekend.

In the early hours of Sunday, April 14, a body was found on the R41 (Main Reef Road) in Kagiso Ext 14.

According to an eye witness Ntefe Mnguni, there was a commotion of people surrounding the body of a man shortly after he was hit.

“I heard some screams as I was walking by and saw a man’s body lying in the road. Some residents tried to assist the person, however, he was already dead,” Mnguni said.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya confirmed the pedestrian was declared dead on the scene and that a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

“We can confirm that there was a body of a man that was found next to Kagiso Avenue and the R41. He had been knocked down by a vehicle,” Sibiya said.

Police urge citizens who may have any information to assist them in solving the case by calling them on 011 696 9052.
