Man nabbed for illegal mining on Hekpoort plot

Illegal mining bust in Hekpoort leads to one arrest. Gold-bearing material and chemicals also seized.

A 59-year-old man was arrested by police for illegal mining activities in Hekpoort last week.

According to the Gauteng Department of Community Safety spokesperson, the arrest was made on a plot known as Doornkool on July 17.

“The man was arrested for illegal mining by the West Rand Crime Intelligence unit, in collaboration with the Hekpoort police and Crime Prevention Wardens, among others. The following items were also recovered, namely illegal mining implements, gold-bearing material and mining chemicals.”

The man will appear in Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on August 14.
