Beware: Residents urged to stay vigilant amid payment scam
Mogale City Local Municipality is warning residents about a scam involving a man known as Michael, who is falsely demanding payments. Residents are urged to stay alert and take precautions to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) is aware of and warns about a scam circulating in town.
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu revealed that an individual identifying himself as Michael, using cellphone number 076 749 0541, is falsely claiming to be a municipal official.
“He is contacting residents and instructing them to make payments for outstanding municipal services or risk disconnection,” she explained.
She confirmed that no official by this name is authorised to collect payments directly from residents and strongly warned not to make any payments to individuals claiming to represent the municipality.
Mogale City has formally appointed Credit Control service providers, such as Cigicell and Ntiyiso Consulting, as well as Debt Collection agencies, Mojela Hlazo attorneys, Credit Intel, Morkalio Revenue Solutions, Saya Recoveries, Madhlopa & Thenga Attorneys, Hahn Collection and Buthelezi Vilakazi Inc to assist with revenue collection.
“To protect yourself against fraud, always verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent Mogale City and ask for official identification. When in doubt, contact us through our official communication channels,” she concluded.
