Morning attempted hijacking drama on Robert Broom Drive: Shooting and arrest confirmed

Security confirmed one person was shot and a suspect was arrested after an attempted hijacking on Robert Broom Drive this morning.

A heavy police and security presence is at the intersection of Robert Broom Drive and Van Oordt Street following an attempted hijacking this morning, September 11.

According to Piquant Security reaction officer Jaco Barnard, one person was shot during the incident. The extent of the person’s injuries is currently unknown. He confirmed that another person has since been arrested.

An eyewitness to the incident explained that she saw two vehicles collide, after which the occupants of one vehicle attempted to flee. The occupants of the other vehicle then gave chase.

“The next moment, one of the men pointed his gun and shot the person multiple times. Then they started kicking him as he was lying in the street,” she said.
