Holiday period sees major arrests, recoveries
From recovering a truck and trailer valued at R2.1m to busting drug users and copper cable thieves, the West Rand Flying Squad made major arrests and recoveries over the festive period.
The West Rand Flying Squad (WRFS) wrapped up December with a series of notable successes, targeting crime across the region and making key arrests and recoveries.
Spokesperson Karen du Plessis shared some highlights:

• December 4: Three arrested in Kagiso for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
• December 7: Four arrested on the R28 near West Village for possession of 10kg of gold-bearing dust and attempted bribery of R3 000. Police also seized illegal mining equipment, including mercury.

• December 11: A truck and trailer valued at R2.1m were recovered in Diepsloot; no arrests made.
• December 13: Stolen motorbike recovered in Bekkersdal; one person escaped.

• December 14: One arrested in Fochville for possession of suspected stolen copper – 383 pieces valued at R20 000. Police also seized the vehicle transporting the copper, worth R165 000.
• December 18: One arrested for possession of five Mandrax tablets on the R500 towards Fochville (value R330).
• December 20: Two men arrested in Kagiso for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

• December 25: Stolen vehicle recovered in Krugersdorp; no arrests made.
