West Rand crime times and hotspots named
Police urge heightened vigilance as crime hotspots and peak times are identified across the West Rand.
West Rand residents are urged to remain vigilant as criminal activity continues to target specific areas and times across the region.
According to West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Loraine Challen, increased awareness can help prevent crime and save lives, particularly in identified high-risk areas.
Residents are advised to be extra cautious in and around the following locations:
• Krugersdorp CBD and surrounding areas, where crimes such as stabbings and armed robberies are prevalent
• Chamdor and Factoria industrial areas
• Hercules and Mindalore
• Munsieville and Kagiso extensions, especially around shopping centres after hours and near ATMs
Police warned that criminals often operate during early morning hours between 04:00 and 07:00, as well as in the evenings from 18:00 to 23:00.
Additional safety precautions issued by police include avoiding walking alone, especially at night, and refraining from using cellphones openly in public spaces. Residents are also advised to keep doors and gates locked at all times, even during the day.
Police further recommend varying daily routines and travel times, remaining alert at traffic lights and stop streets, and, if you suspect you are being followed, driving to a busy area or the nearest police station.
