Krugersdorp lawyer shot dead in Johannesburg CBD

Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media identify the victim as 35-year-old Chinette Gallichan.

A 35-year-old woman was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday, March 23, where police have since launched a murder investigation.

According to Caxton Network News –Johannesburg CBD shooting: Police say victim was followed the victim is believed to have been a lawyer who was on her way to an appointment at the CCMA offices when the shooting occurred.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said preliminary reports indicate the woman was allegedly followed by two unknown suspects, who opened fire on her before fleeing the scene on foot. A case of murder has been opened.

Numerous unverified reports on social media have identified the victim as Chinette Gallichan from Krugersdorp. An athletics club also posted a tribute on Facebook, stating: “Gone way too soon, champ. Rest softly, Chinette. We will miss you dearly.”

Gallichan’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she worked as a litigation superintendent for a multinational mining and metals processing group.

Information remains limited at this stage. The Krugersdorp News has reached out to the running club and her employer for comment. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
