Police arrest driver in Tarlton after R700 000 copper cable bust

A 42-year-old suspect was arrested in Tarlton on Tuesday, September 1, after police recovered suspected stolen copper cables valued at R700 000.

Officers acting on intelligence intercepted a white Isuzu truck allegedly transporting the load from Rustenburg to a Krugersdorp scrapyard.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said police discovered the cables during a search of the vehicle.

Driver faces stolen property charge

The driver was arrested and faces a charge of possessing suspected stolen property.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon. Sello said cable theft and vandalism disrupt essential services, affect businesses and communities, and cause significant financial losses.
