Parts of city without power: municipality on a fault-finding mission
The municipality confirmed that three mini substations are down in the CBD, Rangeview, and Munsieville areas adding their technical team is currently fault-finding.
Mogale City Local Municipality has said they are aware that parts of Mogale City have been without power since the early hours of this morning (Monday, February 20) but assured residents their technical team is busy fault finding.
It has, however, been established that three mini substations are down at the following locations:
• Percy Steward Street in Rangeview Extension 4
• Kobie Krige Street opposite SARS in the CBD
• The corners of Sinqobile and Madiba Streets in Munsieville
“Our technical team is currently fault finding. Once faults have been identified and replacement units or reparation material are sourced, the power restoration process will immediately commence thus no estimated time of restoration can be provided at this point.”
The statement said the municipality cannot keep up with the high demand for mini substations due to continued theft, vandalism, and higher stages of load-shedding.
“These factors not only leave a huge dent in our budget that ratepayers regrettably carry the costs for, but they also put a strain on residents and the municipality’s capacity to deliver basic services. We, therefore, continue to appeal to residents to assist in protecting our infrastructure by reporting any suspicious activity around our substations to our Public Safety Division or the police.”
They apologised for the inconvenience.
