Vandalism leaves Mindalore without electricity

Municipality confirms mini substation on Michael Dames Street has been targeted.

The power outage experienced in Mindalore was caused by vandalism, the municipality confirmed.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) communication officer Refilwe Mahlangu, their energy services department is aware that residents of the area have been without power supply since the early hours of this morning, November 16 due to a vandalised mini substation on Michael Dames Street.

“The substation was damaged beyond repair, however, MCLM’s technical team has reached out to several service providers to source a replacement unit.”

She added the municipality is unable to keep up with the high demand for mini substations due to continued theft and vandalism of the electricity infrastructure.

“These factors not only leave a huge dent in our budget that ratepayers regrettably carry the cost but they also put a strain on the municipality’s services. We therefore appeal to residents to assist in protecting our infrastructure by reporting any suspicious activity around town.”
