Parts of town waterless since Sunday

Councillor confirms some areas in town are without water due to a burst pipe.

A burst water pipe has left parts of town either without water or with low water pressure.

The areas affected include parts of Krugersdorp-North and the Krugersdorp CBD.

According to councillor Mark Trump, the asbestos pipes were laid between 1950 and 1970 and have not been replaced with PVC pipes yet. The asbestos thus weakens over time and leads to the bursting of pipes.

At the time of writing, there have been around 11 burst pipes on the pipeline between Onderste and Third Streets where drinking water is being wasted.

“The burst pipe on Third Street has been leaking since April 14 and causing driveways and affected infrastructure to weaken,” Trump said.

“Streets affected include Onderste, Spruit, Otto, Kingdon, and Blommenstein due to the main water pipes being closed to prevent the waste of clean water. Water trucks have been deployed in the affected areas to provide the community with water as a temporary fix.”

Areas close to the affected streets and areas may also experience low water pressure.
