Landfill site catches fire again

Firefighters and emergency services were quick to respond to yet another fire at the Luipaardsvlei landfill site on Wednesday night.

The Luipaardsvlei Landfill site was on fire again on Wednesday night, May 15.

The Krugersdorp News also reported how a fire broke out at the Luipaardvlei Landfill Site in August last year.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) communications officer, Refilwe Mahlangu, the fire was reported at about 19:30 and immediate action was taken.

“The district fire department and firefighters arrived on the scene promptly, where the cause of the fire is currently under investigation,” Mahlangu said.

Mahlangu added that Mogale City’s Department of Integrated Environmental Management team worked alongside firefighters in an attempt to secure the availability of specialised equipment to control and extinguish the fire. Additional resources will be mobilised to support these efforts.

“We would like to assure that our residents and community’s safety, and employees are our top priority and we are working closely with West Rand District Fire Department and Emergency Services to contain and extinguish the fire.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our residents and communities that are impacted by this incident and we further assure our residents that this incident will be managed swiftly and we will provide regular updates through our website and social media channels,” she concluded.
