Where to take your dump …
After the temporary closure of the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site, the municipality urges residents to make use of neighbouring landfill sites for waste disposal.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has observed a surge in illegal dumping following the temporary closure of the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site by the Gauteng Department of Environment in August.
MCLM’s communications officer Adrian Amod said that while the municipality’s Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) Department acknowledges the challenges and frustrations this closure has caused residents wishing to dispose of waste, illegal dumping is not a viable solution.
“It poses serious risks to public health and safety, exacerbates pollution, and degrades the environment and quality of life in Mogale. Notwithstanding these challenges, IEM has been working tirelessly to address compliance concerns and facilitate the reopening of the landfill site,” Amod expressed.
“In the interim, IEM urges residents to use neighbouring landfill sites for waste disposal until further notice,” he concluded.
The closest landfill and dumping site to Krugersdorp is the Marie-Louise Landfill Site in Braam Fischerville and Pikitup Refuse Drop-off in Davidsonville.
