According to MCLM communications officer, Refilwe Mahlangu, the decision comes as a result of repeated violations of environmental regulations considering the site was designated a protected area under the Protected Areas Act.
“Religious leaders, traditional healers, and spiritual groups are specifically requested to avoid the area during this time.
The closure will allow the municipality to implement a sustainable plan aimed at reducing pollution, reversing environmental damage, and ensuring future compliance with conservation laws,” she explained.
She added, all prohibited activities – including animal sacrifices, the removal of protected plant species, and the erection of unauthorised structures – must cease immediately.
“We urge the public to respect the closure and avoid visiting the kloof until further notice,” she concluded.
