Mogale says SMMEs will thrive in R5b Leratong Smart City Development
An engagement session was held in Kagiso recently with businesses and stakeholders involved in the R5b Leratong Smart City Development.
The R5b Leratong Smart City Development is placing local businesses at the centre of its growth strategy with small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) ready to benefit from extensive procurement and development opportunities, according to the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM).
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu added that this commitment to inclusive economic participation was reaffirmed during a stakeholder engagement session held at the Chief Mogale Community Hall in Kagiso.
Hosted by the Mogale’s Economic Development Services in partnership with the Departments of Human Settlement and Real Estate, the session brought together entrepreneurs and SMMEs eager to contribute and benefit from the Mogale’s ambitious smart city vision.
The project developer, Trendville, shared key insights into the development’s structure, timelines and delivery model.
MCLM’s manager for Enterprise and Rural Development, Deon Govender, highlighted the city’s dedication to preparing local businesses.
“Our goal is to ensure that local businesses are not only informed but also fully equipped and compliant to seize the opportunities this project presents,” Govender stated.
To guarantee transparency and inclusive participation, an Internal Advisory Technical Team has been established to oversee project implementation and ensure fair access to opportunities.
Launched earlier this year by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Mogale Mayor Lucky Sele, the Leratong Smart City is said to be a flagship public-private partnership involving Mogale City, Trendville, and the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements.
“The housing development will feature integrated residential, commercial, and retail zones, promoting job creation, housing delivery, and sustainable economic growth on the West Rand,” Mahlangu said.
