Mogale promotes road and rail safety
The municipality and its partners joined forces to raise awareness about road and rail safety ahead of the busy festive season.
As the festive season approaches and traffic increases on local roads, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) and its partners have launched a road and rail safety campaign under the Transport Month banner.
According to MMC for Finance, Victor Molefe, the Transnet Level Crossing Campaign was introduced to educate the public on vital safety precautions in public spaces.
“The campaign focuses on raising public awareness about railway safety, particularly at level crossings. It aims to educate motorists, pedestrians, and local communities about the dangers of unsafe behaviour near railway lines and to encourage strict compliance with safety regulations to help prevent accidents and save lives,” he said.
The launch was attended by officials from the Department of Public Safety, the police, Traffic Wardens, and members of the local community – all united in their commitment to promoting safety and preventing railway-related incidents, Molefe added.
As part of the programme, officials also conducted high-visibility operations and roadblocks, enforcing by-laws and issuing fines for road traffic infringements to help restore order on the municipality’s roads.
“We conducted several operations throughout the city during the day. These operations are part of the ongoing strategic efforts by the department to curb drunk driving and reduce accidents, especially during this time of year leading up to the festive season,” Molefe concluded.
