Mogale City partners with Chinese city to create local opportunities

The aim is to strengthen ties between the cities while supporting local businesses, fostering cultural exchange, and creating new opportunities for residents.

Residents and businesses in Mogale City could soon benefit from a new partnership with Neijiang City in China, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday, October 30.

The agreement opens the door to collaboration in trade, investment, culture and urban development, potentially creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs, skills development, and economic growth.

Refilwe Mahlangu, Mogale City Local Municipality’s communications officer, said the MoU builds on a visit earlier this year by a high-level delegation from Neijiang, when both cities explored ways to work together in manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and the rehabilitation of mining areas.

“The engagement also focused on leveraging each city’s strengths to advance shared growth and development. Neijiang, located in southeastern Sichuan Province, is a key industrial and cultural hub with thriving food-processing, electronics and logistics industries,” Mahlangu explained.

Mahlangu said the partnership could bring tangible benefits to Mogale City, particularly in skills development and investment. Previous collaborations with Nanjing City have already created new training opportunities through the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority.

During the visit, Mogale City also hosted representatives from the Neijiang National Economic and Technological Development Zone, a state-level industrial area driving innovation in high-tech manufacturing, e-commerce, and logistics.

“Neijiang offers expertise and market access that align closely with Mogale City’s goals for economic growth and investment promotion,” Mahlangu said.
