Illegal sticker blitz: Volunteers take back the Krugersdorp CBD

Krugersdorp Full Gospel Church and community partners unite to remove illegal CBD posters and push for the restoration of the town’s busiest streets.

Concerned about the growing decay in the town centre, the Krugersdorp West Full Gospel Church and several community partners led a major clean-up operation targeting illegal abortion and loan-shark posters across busy CBD streets.

According to clean-up organiser Pastor Tona Morake, the aim was to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the CBD and call for its restoration.

He said organisations such as Lions Club International, So Love Krugersdorp, and Friends of Emergency Services joined volunteers in tackling hotspot areas to make a visible impact.

Councillor Mark Trump noted that the initiative also helped educate the public about outdoor advertising regulations, explaining that these illegal stickers violate municipal by-laws.

“Laws address safety, aesthetic and environmental concerns by regulating the size, placement and visibility of signs. The Advertising Boards Act and municipal by-laws set these specifications, and permits must be renewed annually,” said Trump.

“We are proud of all the volunteers who helped clean the area. It may have been a small step, but we believe it will lead to greater progress in future. I was especially proud of the youth turnout. Many young people were eager to help because they wanted the town to improve, not just for themselves but for future generations,” he concluded.
