Residents warned: Don’t give gifts to waste crews

Mogale City warns residents not to give gifts or money to waste crews and urges reporting of any solicitation.

Many residents may wish to show appreciation to waste collection crews with money or gifts, but municipal employees are not permitted to accept them.

Refilwe Mahlangu, the Mogale City Local Municipality’s assistant manager for Media and PR, said that in line with Senior Management Team resolutions and the municipal Code of Conduct, no employee may accept gifts from residents, businesses, or service providers while on duty.

“As we enter the festive season, Waste Management Operations reminds the public not to offer tokens of appreciation, including gifts, food, money, or alcohol, to waste collection crews or any municipal staff. Likewise, personnel may not request or accept any form of reward, donation, or favour from community members,” she explained.

She added that if any employee solicits gifts, donations, or money, residents should take a photo of the individual or the vehicle’s registration number and report it via:
