Mogale residents urged to use Randfontein’s landfill sites

Residents will need to make use of landfill sites in neighbouring towns while the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site undergoes rehabilitation work.

Residents are encouraged by the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) to make use of the Rand West City Local Municipality landfill sites in Randfontein and Westonaria due to the temporary closure of the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site.

The Krugersdorp News previously reported that the temporary closure is due to urgent rehabilitation and environmental upgrade work following a directive issued by the Gauteng Department of Environment.

MCLM’s Refilwe Mahlangu explained that, unlike the Luipaardsvlei site, residents using these alternative landfill sites will not qualify for the free 500kg waste disposal benefit.

“Disposing of waste above the capacity of a standard refuse bin requires payment of the applicable disposal tariff at these sites. We encourage residents to dispose of waste within the equivalent of a standard 240L refuse bin where possible to avoid additional costs,” she said.

She concluded by assuring residents that despite the temporary closure of the landfill site, refuse collection services will continue as normal.
