Prepare for three days of possible water interruptions

Simple water-saving measures can help households and businesses reduce the impact of possible supply interruptions during the planned maintenance period.

Rand Water and Eskom will conduct critical maintenance on water infrastructure from July 17 to 19, which may result in low water pressure or temporary water supply interruptions.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s assistant manager for media and PR, Refilwe Mahlangu, some areas in and around Krugersdorp may be affected during the maintenance period.

“Our Water Services has activated its contingency plan to reduce the impact, and it will be a priority to ensure that water supply is maintained where possible,” she said.

Mahlangu encouraged residents and businesses to use water sparingly and prepare for possible interruptions during the maintenance period.

The Krugersdorp News has compiled a list of water-saving tips previously shared with readers:

• Check all the pipes in your home for leaks, and report leaks outside your property to the municipality
• Fit aerators to taps to reduce water use while maintaining water flow
• Cover pots and pans while cooking to reduce evaporation
• Install water-efficient taps, showerheads and toilets
• Insulate water pipes to reduce the amount of water wasted while waiting for hot water
• Use a pool cover, lower your pool’s temperature and switch off all but the essential pumps to reduce evaporation. Limit pool pump use to night-time
• Run washing machines and dishwashers only on full loads using the most water-efficient settings, and avoid pre-wash cycles
• Wash laundry in full loads and collect the greywater in a bucket to use for cleaning floors
• Consider long-term water-saving investments such as dual-flush toilet systems and low-flow showerheads
