Reservoir levels plummet across Mogale City
Several Mogale City reservoirs are critically low, with some at 0% to 2% capacity, as the municipality asks residents to conserve water while the system recovers from Rand Water and Eskom maintenance.
Following urgent maintenance on water infrastructure by Rand Water and Eskom between July 17 and 19, Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) water supply remains under severe strain.
The system is currently recovering after the completion of the maintenance work. According to MCLM assistant manager for media and public relations, Refilwe Mahlangu, Rand Water first needs to replenish its bulk storage reservoirs before water can be pumped back to the municipality.
“As a result, parts of town are currently receiving a reduced water inflow, which is putting significant pressure on the municipal water network. This has caused critically low reservoir levels and reduced water pressure,” she said.
On July 20, the following reservoir levels were recorded:
• Kagiso: 1%
• Kagiso Tower: 2%
• Kenmare Sump: 1%
• Kenmare Reservoir: 30%
• Azaadville: 45%
• Kagiso 13: 0%
• Tudor: 73%
• Dan Pienaarville: 50%
• Munsieville: 0%
• Rangeview: 33%
Mahlangu urged residents and businesses who still have a water supply to use it sparingly and only for essential purposes.
“Every litre saved will help the system recover faster and restore supply to affected communities,” she concluded.
