Gauteng transport department tackles R563 and R500 sinkholes
Geotechnical studies and repair tenders are underway to fix hazardous sinkholes across West Rand routes following recent community oversight.
Following an oversight visit on October 16 to the R563 sinkhole in Oaktree by community members and local politicians, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has made progress in detecting and rehabilitating sinkholes across the provincial network, with several major interventions completed between 2023 and 2026.
According to the department’s spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya, these were achieved through coherent responses and better resource mobilisation to restore road infrastructure and improve safety.
