Mrs Krugersdorp helps bring smiles to Durban Deep

Mrs Krugersdorp and a team from Wings of Inspiration donated food and shoes to kids of Durban Deep.

Jenny-Lee Swanepoel, Mrs Krugersdorp recently joined the team from Wings of Inspiration to warm some children’s hearts and feet when they donated food and shoes.

Swanepoel explained that she was contacted by Crawford International Ruimsig whose Grade 1s collected shoes and they wanted her to hand them over to a charity of her choice.

Since the Wings of Inspiration is her chosen charity for the year she will be visiting all 10 of their homes at different stages. They have many different departments that involve children, and this donation was perfect for them.

On August 13, she, Anthea da Costa, director of Wings of Inspiration as well as Gerda Bekker, the general manager of their women and children shelter set off to Durban Deep to the Wings of Inspiration Care Centre and Tharollo’s Soup Kitchen.

Every month Wings of Inspiration donates the food for the daycare as well as a soup kitchen that runs every Saturday. On this day their donation also included shoes for the children. There was a letter from a Crawford learner with each pair of shoes to let the recipients know that they are special and valued.

Swanepoel said it was a wonderful experience to meet the daycare learners. She told the News about one of the learners whom she helped to put on his new pair of shoes. She said it broke her heart when she saw the state of his old shoes as his toes were peaking out the front.

The daycare is a big part of the community and every Saturday their soup kitchen feeds between 100 to 150 children. The team also donated chicken livers, samp, beans, chicken and other meat.

Swanepoel explained that the school is across from a play park that Wings of Inspiration closed off with a palisade fence for the children to be safe when they play there.

I was so blessed to assist with handing over the food donated to the soup kitchen. I was overwhelmed by the warm reception I received, and the little children were so excited to receive a brand-new pair of shoes.

As the letters were read to each child, their little faces lit up with delight! The love that radiated through the letters and the gift of a pair of shoes was tangible!”

She thanked every person who made a difference in the children’s lives.
