If you are connected illegally, MCLM asks that you come forward
MCLM will be switching of those who are connected to the water and electricity illegally. But if you come forward you will not be penalised.
If you are connected to the water or electricity grid in Mogale City illegally now is your chance to come forward and not be penalised.
A statement from Mayoral Spokesperson Phemelo Motoma said the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) through their credit control and utilities management services (UMS) has embarked on a ‘Mogale ya tima’ (Mogale switches off campaign).
This will target all residential households and businesses that have bypassed or illegally connected their water and electrical meters.
“Connections to the main supply by-passing the electrical or water meter constitutes creation of an unauthorised connection and fraudulent use of electricity or water. It is therefore critically important for water and electricity theft in the city to be regarded in a serious light, and that those involved should expect to be cut off supply and penalised.”
But the municipality says because they are a caring municipality they are encouraging members of the public who suspect or know of any tampering with meters to report these actions to them. Alternatively they are also calling on those who have tampered with connections to come forward and they will not be penalised.
