Thirty goats stolen in Rustenburg found in Magalies

Three men were arrested for stock theft in Magalies after 30 goats were found in a Toyota Quantum.

The vigilant eyes of the police in Magaliesburg led to the arrest of three men aged between 48 and 51 for stock theft.

Magaliesburg Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere said at about 07:10 on Friday, November 4, Sergeants Lister Babedi and Sergeant Johny Moeketsi were doing their routine patrol on the R24/ Rustenburg Road when they spotted a suspicious yellow Toyota Quantum with a tinted windows.

“The vehicle was stopped at Orient Hills by the curios members. Inside they found three suspects as well as 30 goats in the passenger seats. The driver and his accomplice failed to produce a permit for the transportation of the livestock. They were subsequently arrested and detained at the Magaliesburg police station.”

Sergeant Mogwere added that preliminary investigations revealed the goats were stolen from Boitekong, Rustenburg.

The trio will appear in Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

Magaliesburg Police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Mawewe Vuma applauded the members for their vigilance which let to the recovery of the livestock and a successful apprehension of the suspects.

“Stock theft cost the community a lot of money and most of the families depend upon livestock as a source of income for their livelihood. It’s a job well done by our members.”
