Woman defrauded in competition: ‘You can’t win if you don’t enter’ – police

The police are concerned about an increase in fraud cases being opened. They want to warn the community to be sure before falling for tricks. The latest involved a competition and prize money.

The Krugersdorp Police said they have noticed an increase in fraud cases and would like the community to be vigilant.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane, Krugersdorp Police spokesperson explained they are currently investigating a case where a woman had been called and told she had won a competition.

“She was told to deposit R1 000 so she can get her price and she did that.”

The woman was later requested to deposit another R1 500 and has still not received her prize.

Captain Sebonyane added they want to warn the community to not entertain any calls that claim they have won a prize especially if they know very well that they did not enter any competitions.

He suggested to rather call the company that the caller claims they are from and ask for more information and confirm that you are indeed the winner of a competition.
