Another 221 arrests by West Rand police

More than 220 arrests were made mostly for being an undocumented person during yet another operation Okae Molao held in Krugersdorp and Muldersdrift over the weekend.

Police visibility and crime prevention operations under the leadership of the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana yielded another 221 successful arrests.

This after police and other law enforcement held operations, which included an Okae Molao operation, in Krugersdorp and Muldersdrift from Friday, January 20 to Sunday, January 22.

Illegal ammunition was confiscated.

The police held roadblocks, stop and searches that looked for people transporting illegal and stolen goods, firearms, illegal drugs and stolen or hijacked vehicles. They also visited liquor outlets and secondhand dealers to checked for compliance and they traced wanted suspects.

The arrests that were made included:
• Two for murder,
• One for attempted murder,
• 20 for assault with the intent to cause grievously bodily harm,
• Six for common assault, domestic violence,
• Two for common assault,
• One for common assault and resisting arrest,
• One for common robbery,
• One for house robbery,
• One for sexual assault,
• 11 For malicious damage to property,
• Eight for housebreaking and theft,
• Two for business burglary,
• 13 For theft,
• Three for fraud,
• One for possession of life ammunition,
• One for possession of unlicensed firearm and dangerous weapon,
• 24 For possession of drugs,
• Six for possession of dagga,
• Four for dealing in drugs,
• 12 For driving while under the influence of alcohol,
• Seven for selling liquor without a license,
• Nine for possession of explosives,
• Two for possession of housebreaking implements,
• Four for possession of a stolen motor vehicle,
• Five for possession of suspected stolen property,
• 31 for being an undocumented person,
• 12 for illegal mining

More suspects were arrested for various crimes such as pointing of firearm, arson, shoplifting, contravention of a protection order, absconding, contempt of court, reckless and negligent driving, use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent, kidnapping and extortion, trespass and loitering.

Captain Eddie Boboko from the West Rand Police said that all the arrested suspects will appear before different magistrate courts within the West Rand District.
