Working on Fire looks to recruit more firefighters in Magalies
Are you interested in becoming a firefighter? Working on Fire is recruiting as of February 2, 2023.
On Thursday 2 February 2023, the Working on Fire programme will recruit firefighters for the Maropeng team in Magaliesburg.
Working on Fire is part of the expanded public works programme and young men and women are recruited and trained to be veld and forest firefighters.
Stephen Boyes, Working on Fire’s general manager in Gauteng, said they will top the Maropeng team with five people.
We mostly recruit the people from where the team is based. These work opportunities will help in alleviating poverty and skills development,’’ said Boyes.
He said the new recruits will be skilled with veld and forest firefighting skills at Kishugu’s Training Academy in Nelspruit for 25 days.
Recruits must be physically and medically fit.
Men will be expected to run 2,4 km within 12 minutes, do 40 push ups, sit ups and eight pull ups within a minute. The women are expected to run 2,4 km within 14 minutes, and also do 40 push ups, sit ups and eight pull ups within a minute.
The recruitment will take place at Magaliesburg Civic Center from 9:00.
