Fun walk to promote health among elders
The Kogro Elderly People Organisation held an event that was the first step to learning more about health and taking steps to be more healthy.
After the Kagiso Elderly Fun Walk held last week many participants felt happy and a lot more educated about their health. It was a lesson that your physical as well as mental health is important regardless of your age.

Held in the Kgoro Hall, Kagiso it was organised by the Kogro Elderly People Organisation in collaboration with Mogale Elderly Health Club.

“I’m happy to see that the elderly are participating in the event. It was a good platform to enjoy yourself and get some exercise. We would love to encourage more elders to join us and learn more about their physical health,” said the manager of the organisation, Daddy Molefe.

The elders were also informed about common illnesses that would affect them as they age and how they can be much healthier. These illnesses and disorders include gout, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and epilepsy. Many of the elders came from low-income homes which meant that they were very vulnerable to getting ill because they could not afford quality health care.

Dipuo Manake, one of the instructors at the event added, “Through this walk, we gave them an environment to show senior citizens that it is possible to live a healthy lifestyle despite your age.”
Another instructor, Alfred Mokogaba continued, “I think this is a good thing for our elders as this will improve them physically and mentally.”
The event ended well with the organisation hoping that more elders will join their program and take care of their health.
