SterStatus finalists play cricket for a good cause
Women played cricket all in the name of charity as part of the SterStatus Empowerment Programme.
The Key West Action Sports Arena is a great venue for a variety of sports such as cricket, football and tennis. However, on Saturday, May 27, it felt extra special and heart-warming to see a large number of people coming to the event and join the finalists of SterStatus to assist them in their cause.
SterStatus is a women empowerment organisation that aims to uplift young women and girls in bettering themselves and society. It also gives a platform for the less vulnerable. The young contestants who were part of the empowerment programme would make their way onto the cricket pitch along with other teams hoping to raise enough funds for charity and thus be an inspiration to many young women and girls.
It’s been an amazing journey for all of us and those we can help,” said Samantha Thomson, one of the contestants.
The funds they raised will be donated to the Fabulous Girls Charity Foundation. They have also collaborated with the organisation by being part of their paint and house renovation project as well as blanket drive.
Organiser Charlotte van Wyk is proud of the young women and is full of hope that the cause will make a big impact. The women were supported by various cricket teams at the action sports arena who participated in the Charity Cricket Matches hoping to raise enough funds to be donated.
