Laerskool Hekpoort appoints new principal

'The most important people at the school are the children and it is very important to me that we nurture them' – newly appointed Laerskool Hekpoort principal.

Laerskool Hekpoort is a school rich in history, tradition and academic excellence. The school has been around for over 120 years and its newly appointed principal, Tania Rademan hopes to shine the school’s light even brighter.

Tania studied teaching at the North-West University and graduated with distinction and has never looked back since as she has enjoyed a memorable and distinguished career as an educator.

She started her teaching journey in 1996 when she began teaching at Westfields Primary School in Carletonville. She then joined the staff of Hekpoort in 2008. For Tania, education is more than just giving lessons in the classroom.

“The most important people at the school are the children and it is very important to me that we nurture them and send well-balanced and developed children to high school. Our academics must always be of the highest standard. It is therefore important for every child to believe in him or herself, and have the opportunity to participate and socialise with others,” she said.

On the sports field, Tania said they stand back for no one and it is an opportunity where kids can grow on a different level as she believes that children should be well-rounded and complete individuals who should not only excel in academics but sports as well.

“We compete against schools much bigger than us but still our learners perform individually well. It just shows you how confident our youngsters are.”

Last but not least Tania is grateful for all the support she received, especially from her husband who she said is her pillar of strength.

“My husband was the principal of Laerskool Hekpoort and is currently the principal at Bekker High School. I have learned a lot from him as a person and principal over the past 14 years. He taught me how a principal should run his school and how to lead by example,” Tania said.
