Adopt-a-School Foundation to address infrastructure needs at Kagiso school on Mandela Day
The foundation invites the public to join them in addressing the needs of Tskakani Primary School on Mandela Day.
This Mandela Day (18 July), the Adopt-a-School Foundation is championing a school shoe campaign alongside volunteer initiatives that will be hosted on the day.
The foundation will partner with the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation through its Whole School Development (WSD) programme, to effect change across the school spectrum, providing a schooling environment conducive to teaching and learning.
A registered non-profit organisation with the vision of creating dynamic, transformed and accessible schooling environments that produce capable global citizens to meet the developmental needs of Southern Africa, the foundation hopes its WSD model goes beyond academic programmes. This includes helping learners gain access to footwear.
Adopt-a-School Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Steven Lebere said, “We have found that in various rural and urban school communities across the country, parents are unable to afford school shoes, resources and uniforms for their children. Many learners continue to brave harsh terrains travelling to school to access education, a basic human right.
“To restore dignity and ease the journey, the foundation calls upon our corporate partners to donate towards school shoes and a range of WSD activities.”
The foundation is delighted to have support from, among others, Dr Tshepo Motsepe the Chairperson of the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation along with Royal Haskoning DHV and BP Southern Africa.
Adopt-a-School has identified and committed to addressing some basic infrastructure needs at a school in Kagiso, Gauteng, where – on Mandela Day – volunteers will work together on minor renovations at Tskakani Primary School on Mandela Day.
“Throughout our 21-year history, the foundation has helped deliver quality schooling to 643 underprivileged schools across the country through public and private partnerships. We hope to continue this and invite South Africans to help us restore the dignity of learners this Mandela Day,” Steven said.
