Vital emergency simulation carried out on Voortrekker Road
Mogale City Response Services and other first responders conducted an important training exercise and simulation should the need arise in the future.
With several fatalities occurring at the Voortrekker and Shannon Road intersection in recent months, particularly along the curve in the road, this location was deemed appropriate for an emergency services simulation.
Mogale City Emergency Services along with other first responders put their skills to the test during this major rims simulation which took place on Friday afternoon, July 28.

A rims simulation is an emergency exercise conducted by Public Safety workers with the sole purpose of testing their skills in all disciplines of emergency services in Mogale City to improve the urgency and preventive measures when it comes to rescuing and assisting those involved in accidents.
The public was not notified of the exercise because emergency services wanted to ensure that it was conducted as if it was a real accident to test the skillset of first responders and test the co-operation of the public. The exercise saw a realistic staged accident near the Voortrekker and Shannon Road intersection, with services such as Mogale City Public Safety, Mogale City Fire Department, Netcare911, and First Help Towing Services all working together to ensure that the exercise went well.

Founder of Friends of Emergency Services Dale Mac Rae was among the many service workers present at the simulation and highlighted the importance of the exercise that took place.
“Yes it’s annoying and frustrating for road users as it is a dangerous bend and a nuisance as it is done during a time when people are either fetching their children from school or coming home early on a Friday from work, but when there is a real incident, services cannot choose when or where this will happen, they do, however, need to be prepared, hence these simulations are arranged,” Mac Rae said.

Although an annoyance for road users, the simulation was a resounding success, and emergency services personnel were pleased with the overall preparation.
Citizens of Mogale City can be assured they are in very capable hands should they or their loved ones find themselves in a life-threatening emergency, no matter when, where or what time.
