Curro hosts informative parenting support workshop

Curro Krugersdorp empowers local parents with educational talk on developmental milestones.

Curro Krugersdorp Preschool took a proactive step towards enriching its local community by hosting an informative and engaging educational workshop focused on the crucial topic of developmental milestones on August 26.

Parents and caregivers from the area gathered to learn from the expertise of the school’s educational psychologist, Chantelle Botha.

The workshop, held at Curro Krugersdorp, aimed to equip parents with a deeper understanding of the developmental milestones that children must reach within specific age brackets. Botha led the enlightening session, guiding attendees through the intricate process of identifying and nurturing these milestones.

The workshop touched on a variety of essential aspects related to child development. Botha also shared insights on how young bodies evolve, emphasising the significance of factors such as pencil grip and posture. In a time where screens dominate many aspects of daily life, she addressed the current concern of screen time and its potential impact on children’s development.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the practical guidance provided to parents. Botha equipped mothers and fathers with tools and strategies to ensure that their children achieve vital developmental milestones between the ages of three months and five years. These encompassed a range of fundamental skills including gross motor skills, fine motor skills, social skills, hearing skills, vision, language development, and self-care.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge shared during the workshop, attendees were treated to an inviting spread of coffee and snacks, allowing for networking and informal discussions among parents. The sense of community and shared learning added a touch of warmth to the event.

Curro Krugersdorp Preschool’s commitment to fostering a holistic educational environment for its learners extends beyond the classroom. By organising events such as this educational workshop, the school actively contributes to the empowerment of local parents, helping them play an even more integral role in their children’s growth and development.

“The success of the developmental milestones workshop underscores the positive impact that schools can have on their communities beyond academic instruction. As Curro Krugersdorp continues to engage with parents and caregivers in such meaningful ways, the local community can look forward to further opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration,” concluded the school’s phase head, Helena Hern Jansen van Vuuren.
