Stage 4 to continue until Sunday
Emergency generation reserves are yet to be recovered as a result Eskom confirms Stage 4 load-shedding will continue until the weekend.
Stage 4 load-shedding will continue daily until 05:00 on Sunday (September 3), thereafter, Stage 2 will be implemented until 16:00.
This is necessary due to the need to recover emergency generation reserves, and the generation maintenance to be implemented in preparation for the coming week. Eskom has confirmed that current breakdowns are at 14 953 MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service is 5914 MW. In the last 12 hours, a generating unit at Arnot and Kreil power stations was taken offline for repairs. Subsequently, a generating unit at Arnot, Duvha, and Tutuka power stations was returned to service.

The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Kendal and Tutukapower stations is also contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 27 639 MW and members of the public are advised to switch off non-essential appliances to reduce demand. That includes switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00 this lowers demand and helps in reducing the pressure that contributes to the low power supply.
Eskom will provide the public with more updates if any changes occur.
