Lombard Tyres end 40th birthday celebrations on a sweet note

On September 1, staff at the Krugersdorp East branch was surprised by the company's exco team who brought a cake just for them. And with it, one final party! Happy birthday Lombard Tyres from the Krugersdorp News team!

To celebrate 40 years of being in business, the management team at Lombard Tyres went all out to make the milestone extra special for their employees.

During their month-long celebrations, employees at each of their 18 retail branches received a box filled with goodies each week, the final box being a birthday cupcake.

At Lombard Tyres, their staff are like family, and what better way to celebrate your birthday than with family? The team at their head office worked very hard to hand paint and personally pack a box for each branch. Each gift was also accompanied by a message from managing director Sean Kruger.

Week one’s box contained a cap with the Lombard Tyres logo and an energy drink with a message for that week read; “It has been 40 years of being in business. We would like to celebrate our birthday month with you. A cap to show how far we have come an energy drink to gear up for what is still to come. Thank you for being part of our journey and contributing to our success.”

Week two the employees received a personalised mug with their photo on it in the form of a cartoon and a sachet of coffee with a rusk.

Staff also received mugs and coffee with a rusk.

“We are not only a business. We are one big family working together to achieve success together with the rest of the Lombard family enjoy this warm cup of coffee with a homemade rusk. Thank you for choosing the Lombard family,” read the message for that week.

In the third week every employee received a cooler lunch box with a key chain containing a black and white photo of themselves with a message that read; “As we wrap up our birthday month with eagerness and excitement of what the future holds for us, fill this lunch bag with our five core values – integrity, respect, accountability, open and honest communication, leadership and innovation. Let’s take on the next 40 years together.”

Each employee received a lunch box with a keychain with their photo on it.

Then they all received a special birthday cupcake to end it all off.

Kruger wrote to the teams saying, “As we complete our 40th birthday celebrations, let’s finish it with the way it should be celebrated, with cake! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, not only during August but every day. Never underestimate the vital role that every team member plays in our success. Lombard Tyres has only achieved this great milestone due to the contributions of every team member, past and present. I know that with a team like ours, we will face all possible hurdles and overcome them.

“It is easy to get stuck in a negative mindset with all the negative news we are constantly bombarded with, but let’s just take a step back and have a look at where we are today and what we have overcome, the past couple of years. Let us focus on what we have achieved and keep a positive mindset for the coming years. Don’t let the outside noise distract you. I know that it is easier said than done, but that is why we as a team need to be there for each other and ensure we all stay on course! One of my favourite quotes that my father imparted to me is from Napoleon Hill, ‘Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve’. I challenge you all to believe in your goals and see how you will achieve them. I look forward to the next 40 years and what is to come. It is a privilege to be part of this journey with you all. Happy birthday Lombard Tyres.”

To share the festive mood, the branches were asked to decorate their branch for the month. Each branch then competed in an internal competition to see who decorated their branch best. The other branches all agreed that at the end of the day, it was the Krugersdorp East branch who won with their decorating skills.

Walking through the front door of the shop the balloon displays immediately caught every customer’s eye and this was rounded off with a happy birthday message to welcome every customer.
